Founded in 1947, the Group has a workforce of over 14,000 dedicated employees and generated sales of CHF 2.6 billion in the financial year 2020/21 as well as a net profit of CHF 585 million. Across all businesses, and by supporting the Hear the World Foundation, Sonova pursues its vision of a world where everyone enjoys the delight of hearing and therefore lives a life without limitations.
Sonova Australia Pty Ltd commenced in 1984 as the then partnership between Phonak and Telex, located in Seven Hills, a suburb of Sydney. The company was formed to assemble behind-the-ear hearing aids (BTEs) for National Acoustic Laboratories, which later became Australian Hearing. In 1989, the company became Phonak Australasia Pty Ltd and moved across to Blacktown to accommodate growth. By 1992, Phonak had contracts with the Government to supply in-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids; and faceplates were manufactured for the world market. The company continued to grow and moved again in 2002 to Norwest Business Park in Baulkham Hills. With the end of faceplate production in 2003, the company was already moving towards a sales organisation. From this time, Phonak and Unitron began to grow in the market and new management restructured the business and introduced departments including Sales, Marketing, Customer Service and Order Entry. The production side of the business remained strong, with the focus on service and custom products. To enhance business processes, the company moved offices in 2014 to an independent site in Baulkham Hills. Today with more than 80 staff, the Sydney office is run with full operational systems including Sales, Marketing, Customer Care call centre, Manufacturing and Production, Service and Repair Laboratory, Stores and Warehousing. The company also has in-field Audiology & Sales Specialists across Australia providing support to our valued partners. Over the past 30 years, the wholesale business has seen much growth and change, largely attributable to the momentous technological advancements during this time. The Australian wholesale business is proud to now be known as Sonova Australia Pty Ltd and serves the market with all of Sonova’s wholesale brands – Phonak, Unitron and Advanced Bionics. The company remains committed to providing Australia with the best possible outcome for hearing solutions combined with technological innovation and customer service excellence.
