“Olivia was born profoundly deaf and implanted bilaterally when she was 18 months old. Olivia, 13, wears bilateral AB cochlear implants which gives her access to a world of sound. Olivia has been part of the 2364 Welshpool squadron Royal Air Force Cadets (RAFC) for over two years, and on Tuesday 13th February 2024, Olivia did the unimaginable. She was given the incredible opportunity to fly an actual aircraft, Grob G 115 at RAF Cosford. Olivia is the FIRST ever RAF cadet who has cochlear implants to ever fly an RAF aircraft and I am so incredibly proud of her. The staff who run the squadron allows her every opportunity to access the ranges, camps, and so much more. They are truly an inspiration and their continued commitment to never see Olivia as ‘different’ is exceptional. Olivia is proof that because of AB, the sky really is the limit!”
- Keilly, mum of Olivia
