Take a look behind the scenes and learn how colleagues across Sonova’s businesses are dedicated to creating a positive impact on the environment, society, and the workplace.
Our ESG strategy, called IntACT, is an integral part of Sonova's business strategy. It builds on four key areas: protecting the planet, advancing our people, serving society, and acting with integrity. However, this strategy will only fly if all our colleagues make a contribution because there is much work to be done.
In this feature, we showcase how Sonova colleagues are making strides in sustainability, inclusivity, and ethical conduct. These examples highlight just a few of the many ways colleagues around the globe help to implement our IntACT strategy.
In Germany, one of Sonova's largest markets, our representatives at GEERS cover up to 60,000 km by car annually. To reduce this environmental footprint, GEERS began converting its fleet to electric vehicles three years ago.
“In 2023, the focus was firmly on substantially increasing the proportion of electric cars,” says Gabriele Lingenhoff, who manages the car fleet. Despite challenges with e-mobility infrastructure in Germany, the shift is progressing. Benedikt J. Weber, Head of HR Transformation, proudly drives a fully electric company car, emphasizing his commitment to reducing the carbon footprint and supporting new technologies. “Charging can now be quite communicative – you get to talk to each other,” he adds with a chuckle.
Creating an inclusive workplace is a priority at Sonova. Solange Anderson, Senior Director R&D, highlights how the company ensures accessibility for people with hearing loss.
“The company has really put in efforts to create a workplace that is inclusive – in many rooms there is access to Phonak Roger technology which makes a massive difference in being able to effectively communicate either in person, hybrid, or virtual,” she explains. As a member of Sonova’s Hearing Loss Network, Solange contributes to fostering a common mindset and implementing the right technology to promote inclusivity. These efforts not only benefit individuals with hearing loss but also enhance communication and collaboration for everyone.
At Sonova, ethical conduct and compliance are paramount. Deepa Vijayan, Global Head of Compliance and Data Privacy, emphasizes the importance of providing a safe channel for reporting potential non-compliance at the workplace.
“In the past five years, Speak ups have more than tripled. We treat all reports on possible violations at the wokplace according to the same defined process, regardless of whether they fall under the directive or not,” she says. Sonova's transparent approach includes internal dashboards showing the number of cases reported, resolved, and their business areas. This transparency fosters trust in the Speak up process. In the past business year, 44% of complaints were substantiated, with actions ranging from verbal or written warnings to termination of employment. This rigorous process underscores Sonova's dedication to maintaining a respectful and ethical workplace.
