Meet Susann Müller, an ardent packaging designer at Sonova, who is passionate about continuously improving the environmental impact of our packaging while keeping customer experience and corporate needs in check.
"Our aim is to cut the weight of packaging material for hearing aids by 20% by 2027, even as we grow our business," Susann explains. "We’re also striving to eliminate plastic, reduce waste, and put more focus on sustainable materials. This isn’t something I can do alone – it’s a team effort."
Every day, Susann collaborates with manufacturers, our customers, and colleagues, blending discussions and ideation with hands-on work to create new prototypes.
One recent success: she helped reduce the packaging for our TV Connector by over 50%, saving 16 tons of material each year. When Phonak will launch the newest premium hearing aid in late summer, approximately 9.8 tons of material will be saved per year compared to the previous charger packaging.
"Sonova is always looking to innovate – and that includes our packaging," Susann says, though she’s quick to credit the teamwork that makes it all possible. "We also foster cross-functional teamwork to ensure everyone’s expertise is leveraged in our sustainability efforts."
Susann’s work is a critical part of our overall sustainability strategy. Her efforts help us make tangible progress toward environmental goals; however it is just one step in our ongoing journey to protect the planet.
