Before the CI surgery, conversations were exhausting. I had to do a lot of mental ‘translating’ just to piece together enough fragments to make sense of what was being said. By the evening, I was often tired, drained, and had no energy left to go out. Since the operation, so much has changed for me. Talking and attending meetings at school is far less tiring. I notice the difference even in the classroom. Right after the surgery, I relied on a teaching assistant to support me. Today, a year and a half after the initial activation, I’m back to teaching on my own. And I can sit at the piano again and make music with my class.
