I was diagnosed with hearing loss at the age of 2. My hearing declined and at 17, I became a candidate for cochlear implants. I wasn’t quite ready to move forward then. A year later, I was diagnosed with Usher Syndrome, a combination of blindness and hearing loss. As a result, I knew eventually I would need to make a decision. At the age of 28, I finally decided to get implanted. I loved it so much that I had my other ear implanted 6 months later!
I have been a lifelong user of Phonak heairng aids so it seemed like a seamless transition to Advanced Bionics since I was already familiar with their technology.
The cochlear implants have been such a blessing! I feel like I have more opportunities available now that I can hear on the phone finally! I am able to participate more in conversations without having to ask others to repeat themselves. I have discovered the wonder of podcasts and audiobooks! I can only say that I wish I had taken the plunge sooner!
