I was diagnosed with bilateral profound sensorineural hearing loss at just six days old. At three months, I began wearing hearing aids, and at 22 months, I received my first cochlear implant in my right ear on November 23, 1999.
My parents dedicated themselves to rigorous research on cochlear implant companies. After in-depth discussions with professionals and other parents, they chose Advanced Bionics.
This decision has profoundly shaped my life. The cochlear implants have enabled me to engage with the world in a way that would have been unimaginable otherwise. They have opened doors to opportunities that I might not have had without them. I've been privileged to work as a lifeguard, manage and train a team of pool staff, work in a restaurant, attend college, and earn a graduate degree. I've also had the opportunity to mentor and train undergraduate and graduate students in a cardiovascular research laboratory. Now, I'm pursuing my newest endeavor: attending law school. Recently, receiving bilateral cochlear implants has further enriched my experiences, instilling a deep sense of confidence in my ability to engage with the world fully. These implants haven't just improved my hearing—they've empowered me to live a life full of possibilities.
